Problems Are Projects
Once upon a time, there was a business owner who treated every issue like an emergency.
Every day, problems would hit their desk…customer complaints, supplier issues, employee conflicts….and they'd drop everything to react.
Until one day, they discovered the simple truth: PROBLEMS aren't emergencies, they're PROJECTS.
Because of that realization (from the legend David Allen), they started reframing EVERYTHING.
Instead of "Our inventory system is a mess," they thought
"Project: Fix our inventory workflow."
Because of that, the shapeless, emotional problems became structured projects with clear beginnings, middles, and ends.
They stopped asking "Why is this happening to me?" and started asking "What's the next action?"
“Cash flow” wasn't a problem to stress about….it was actually three separate projects:
create a 90-day forecast
negotiate better payment terms
set up automatic invoicing
Now….finally…they could hand off projects to their team with clear instructions instead of dumping vague problems on them.
Ever since then
their business ran smoother because projects end but problems feel eternal.
they stopped having customer service problems and started having customer service system design projects.
they stopped having hiring problems and started having recruitment process improvement projects.
The moral of the story?
Problems HAPPEN to you.
Projects are things you DO.
Stop managing problems.
Start completing projects.
